Dopamine and Sugar: What's up with them?

 Dopamine is the neurotransmitter that motivates us to move forward, work toward a goal. It is the neurotransmitter that helped our our ancient ancestors hunt. Nothing is more Dopamine driven than pursuing an animal for sustenance. Dopamine gives us the fuel to keep pursuing our dreams, to keep going toward a goal even if it may be difficult. Sugar, more than other foods we eat, has a bigger impact on our Dopamine system because the reward is so intense! We desire sugar and we want it now! LOL

Unfortunately, pain is a part of our human existance.


If we stub our toe, strain our back or cut our finger; it hurts! Luckily, most pain resolves with time, care and if necessary treatment, such as massage, physical therapy and medications.  But for some of us, the pain of an injury can persist long after the initial trauma has healed. If this pain persists for months or even years, it becomes what is called Chronic Pain. Some Chronic Pain has no known physical cause.  In my 24 years of as a massage therapist I have noticed a rather mysterious pattern. Some clients have really bad x rays, MRIs etc and yet expeirence little or no pain. While other clients may show nothing wrong physically and yet experience alot of pain.  Psychological factors such as anxiety, depression, and stress, can affect the perception of pain and further contribute to its persistence. The interaction between pain and psychological states can create a vicious cycle where pain exacerbates psychological distress and vice versa. This circular cause and effect can be shown in physical processes as well.

What is Energy Healing?


  Everything is made of energy including human beings!  Just as we have a physical body, we also have an energy body. When our  energy body is free and unburdened, we feel vital, balanced and at peace. We become who we are meant to be. 

My job as a healer is to  clear, hamonize and strengthen the clients energy body by channeling Source energy through my hands. I rely heavily on help from my spiritual  team to facilitate the healing.  I am not doing the healing with my will, ego, or personality. Instead, I am just a channel for spiritual energy to flow through. Spiritual energy activates the client's innate ability to heal. 

  

QiGong Healing


I am a graduate of the four year Qigong Healing program taught by Damaris Jarbeau in Boulder Colorado. I graduated in 2000 and have been practicing ever since! Damaris continues offer post grad classes at The Center Place which I reliably attend to learn new healing modalities. 

Qigong originated in China thousands of years ago. The word Qi means "energy" and the word  gong  means "cultivation of" so Qigong means the cultivation of energy.  

The QiGong  healer channels Source energy  through her hands clearing and strengthening the client's energy field.

Today we’re going to explore  Metal Element, one of the five elements in the ancient Chinese system of Five Element Theory. This timeless philosophy organizes all of nature — and our own human experience — into five energetic categories: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.  


The Five Element system teaches us how to live in harmony with the changing seasons, balancing our emotions and physical health with the rhythms of the natural world around us — and within us. We are as much a part of nature as a cloud drifting across the sky, a mountain standing firm, or a stream rushing down a hillside. As the seasons shift, we, too, are affected.


According to the Five Element calendar, the bright, expansive yang energy of summer is fading into the more reflective, inward energy of autumn — the season of the Metal Element.
